Tip Calculation Formula

The tip calculator uses simple mathematical formulas to calculate tip amounts and split bills:

Basic Tip Calculation

Tip Amount = Bill Amount × (Tip Percentage ÷ 100)

Total Amount = Bill Amount + Tip Amount

Per Person Amount = Total Amount ÷ Number of People

Calculation Example

Example: $85 bill with 20% tip split between 2 people

  • Tip Amount = $85 × (20 ÷ 100) = $17.00
  • Total Amount = $85 + $17 = $102.00
  • Per Person = $102 ÷ 2 = $51.00 each
